Developing self marking resources using Numbers

A few years ago, I began using the Numbers App to create self-scoring worksheets for my Engineering students. These sheets not only helped them prepare for exams but also eased my workload as class sizes grew. Recently, students shared how much they enjoyed using them. They particularly liked having space to sketch out calculations and getting instant feedback (Smiley face) on their answers. It's clear that these worksheets are making a positive impact on both learning and teaching.

 

Taking this feedback on board, I adapted the templates to another theory area of the Engineering subject ‘Gear Systems’. This was really easy to modify, and, using existing example questions I quickly produced a new set of resources. Having trialled the new resources this week, results were again positive from the students and I’m now looking to use this techniques with other areas of the curriculum.

In the past, a number of educators in my school have been reluctant to adapt new technology into their teaching because they believed the students needed the experience of writing down their calculations in preparation for exams. Designing resources this way addresses this issue, increases student engagement and reduces teacher workload.
